Matthew Halsall nous a déjà offert un EP magnifiquement conçu cette année, maintenant avec Changing Earth, il a partagé un autre mini-album ou EP de quatre pistes. Là où la musique de The Temple Within est venue de l’énergie autour des sessions mensuelles du groupe à Yes à Manchester, Changing Earth est une offre spirituelle plus méditative.
La chanson titre Changing Earth est un groove soul et édifiant avec un travail sublime de tout le groupe, mais surtout de Matt Cliffe à la flûte et de Maddie Herbert à la harpe. Positive Activity est l’une des compositions les plus charmantes de Halsall, construite autour d’une ligne de basse hypnotique de Gavin Barras, sa mélodie est plaintive mais aussi édifiante et pleine d’espoir et le harpiste Herbert brille à nouveau ici. Yogic Flying est un autre morceau soul et édifiant alors que Halsall et le percussionniste Jack McCarthy nous emmènent dans un voyage transcendantal vers le haut. Enfin, notre voyage vers l’intérieur et vers le haut nous emmène vers Upper Space, un morceau typiquement Halsall construit autour d’une harpe scintillante et d’un sanctuaire sublime et émouvant élevé par le beau travail de tout le groupe, mais surtout du saxophoniste Matt Cliffe.

Matthew Halsall shares the ‘Changing Earth’ EP – another exquisite and spiritual four track offering.
The title track Changing Earth is a soulful, elevating groover featuring sublime work from the whole band but especially, Matt Cliffe on flute and Maddie Herbert on harp. Positive Activity is one of Halsall’s most charming compositions, built round a hypnotic bassline from Gavin Barras it’s melody is plaintive but also uplifting and hopeful and harpist Herbert again shines brightly here. Yogic Flying is another soulful, uplifting tune as Halsall and percussionist Jack McCarthy take us on a transcendental journey upwards. Finally our journey inwards and upwards takes us to Upper Space, a quintessentially Halsall tune built around glistening harp and a sublime, soulful sanctuary elevated through beautiful work from the whole band but especially saxophonist Matt Cliffe.
