Late 80’s Nigerian (Edo) highlife oddity. Pretty obscure.. full with quirky synths and groovy drumprogramming. Total highlight here is Enotiomwan, with its catchy horns, funky synth hits , slapbass and crazily deep vocals. HEAVY!
It’s been one of the 1st Nigerian Lps to land in our collection some years ago, the track « Enotiomwan » is one of our all time favourite and most selected during our selections. It’s somehow hard to categorize this music, a blend of Deep Highlife, Boogie, Edo Language and mad Synths coming out of nowhere. Cosmical Vibes 100%.
After weeks of research in Nigeria during summer 2018 we finally found, in Benin City, Mr. Odomore who than introduced us to all the members of the band and to the producer of the Lp. We discovered that Ọyọetigbe – The Birth Of A Child is the 1st Lp he made back in 1988 and that at the time was pressed in a very limited edition and is still nowdays highly unkown and hard to find!
The LP comes with a restored artwork plus a nice insert containing some beautiful unpublished pictures of the artists back in the days and a nice interview.
The Lp’s audio is taken from two copies of the Lp and restored by Colin Young and it is pressed at Optimal. Cover and Insert are printed in quality thick paper at Legno (Italy) who also took care of the graphics.
