Ornette’s music, in the air at the time of Coltrane, was important in the development of rhythmic improvised harmonic music, sometimes called Jazz. Ornette and Don Cherry were proficient and highly intuitive players who blended together perfectly. Charlie Haden and Jimmy Garrison were strong players who could hear what was appropriate to this music. This album was strong when it came out, and it is strong today. And it’ll be strong and vital tomorrow.
